Muddy Waters - 'Can't Get No Grindin'

Can't Get No Grindin' was recorded at Ter-Mar Recording Studios in March 1972, and released in August 1973 on the Chess Records label.  The album was produced by Ralph Bass, and was Mud's next-to-the-last album release for Chess Records.

The album represents a major milestone in Mud's later career, signaling a raw, intentional return to his classic 1950s Chicago electric blues style.  This shift followed years of experimental, psychedelic, celebrity-packed collaborations and brass-heavy releases pushed by "the geniuses" at Chess.  Ralph Bass' production captures live spontaneity and raw energy without relying on electronic studio gimmicks.

Surprisingly, 'Can't Get No Grindin' is the only Muddy Waters album in the Blues Hall of Fame (inducted in 1991) that was actually recorded as an album, not a compilation of singles and older material.
