Billie Holiday - 'Perfect Complete Collection'

Billie Holiday's 'Perfect Complete Collection' is a 12CD boxed set, that had all of Billie's the known live recordings at the time of the set's release in 1993.  It was released by Sound Hills Records a Japanese bootleg/reissue/public domain label.

I picked this up at record fair here in Manhattan in 1995.  The box itself is beautiful, and is faux leather-bound, the audio ranges from very good to excellent, it has some very rare recordings, and a 28-page booklet (included in the freeload), in Japanese and English.

If you're a fan of Billie's, you need this in your collection.

For the freeload, tell us who are a few of your favorite female singers are.

  1. I like Billie Holiday, I also like Maria Muldaur. And when in the mood, there is always Grace Slick. I'm sure I will think of more.

    1. Cesária Évora! And for whatever reason, her name made me think of the late great Elza Soares.

    1. I remember reading that, (after the TAMI Show was the TNT Show), many of the performers appearing at TNT, lined up in front of the Ronettes to hear Ronnie sing, and were amazed that the power of Ronnie's vocals almost knocked them over.

    1. I absolutely hated that song until I listened to that clip. Amazing transformation.

    2. It is a transformation, bringing out emotion totally lacking in the original. She doesn't shy away from the bitterness in that first verse, but doesn't let it linger, and that joyous laugh is how I want to remember her.
Still standing, still giving life everything she has, with incredible style and spirit. Also of note - she mostly hits the note, only a couple of fluffs, and her phrasing is Sinatra-level accomplished.
