Beach Boys Bonanza

Yesterday, I was going through a tub of CDs in the ol’ archives, and I found 10 Beach Boys rarities CDs, some still sealed.  They are part of an 18 CD series, released by those fine folks at Dumb Angel Records.  As for the remaining 8 that were on a CD rack, a few of them, I’ve already posted on False Memory Foam, but, I will repost them here, in case you missed them.

So over the next 18 days, in addition to our regular programming, I will post one a day, without a “qualifying question”. If you’re a fan, you’ll want to grab these, they all have a nice booklet and excellent sound.

Vol.1, 1962-1968

Vol.2, 1969-1971

Vol.3, 1972-1976

Vol.4, 1976-1977

Vol.5, 1978
Vol.6, 1978-1983

Vol.7, 1984-1989

Vol.10, 1967+1964

Vol.11, 1968

  1. Oh yes, please *giddy hand clapping*

Of course I'm also amused that you still have CDs (some still sealed!). I'm a child of the CD era and that medium's swift decline...well...it saddens me to see what's left of the CD section in music/tech entertainment stores. Where once they had a quarter of the store, they now get a 3x3 wall and maybe a bin or two.

Also, there seems to be at least one alliterative "b"-word missing in your announcement.

Ladies and gentlemen, it is now time for our co-main event. Babs and Dumb Angel Poductions proudly present:

  2. Thanks for this swell internet initiative, Babs. Mucha preciated!

I haven't owned any CDs, or other physical media doo-hickey stuff, for lo these many years. If the human race lasts that long, we're entering into a new AI world where we'll be entertained according to our own tastes and desires, and the idea of buying someone else's idea of entertainment (ie artists producing art in any form) will seem hopelessly outdated. Who will have the patience for that, when you can get immediate results from a prompt spoken into your virtual headset (or neural implant or whatever)?

  4. I still have my vast CD collection. When I download something, I burn it onto CD. I don't mind placing a disc into a player and pushing a button or two. And, I still have my vast record collection. I don't mind pulling slab of vinyl out and cueing up the needle; and flipping it over when the side's done. I did digitize my records and tapes in 2006, as backup insurance in case they got damaged, tho.
I'm not interested in having to go thru a 3rd party to listen to what I want, or to look at my own photographs, or anything else, for that matter. If such is for you, good on ya, but I like to have what's mine with me.

PS I've never been much of a Beach Boys fan, despite believing Good Vibrations is among the ten greatest things set to tape (What was it about 1965-1966? Good Vibrations. Tomorrow Never Knows. Summer In The City. Eight Miles High. Like A Rolling Stone), but I've been downloading them from here and One Buck and the Isle because I keep thinking I'm missing something that others are getting; I've not done a volte-face as yet, but I'm finding unexpected worthiness.

  5. Sooper.
I have a few of these but am missing vol 12 & 15-18.
I too have lots of CDs, but I've not added to them for many years. Also I've jettisoned the cases - our house is 880 sq ft, and I just can't justify it. Sold all my vinyl, though.
