The Rolling Stones need no introduction, and come to think of it, either does 'Beggars Banquet'. So here are a few pics from the photo shoot.

The freeload is a sweet sounding remaster with 24bit-192kHz sonics. This is the digital version you should have.
The other night I was out with some friends, and we were asking hypothetical questions (yes, alcohol was involved). One of the questions was, "If you could only to listen to one Rock band for the rest of forever, who would it be?". My answer was, "Either The Rolling Stones or The Grateful Dead", as I could only narrow it down to two.
So, for the freeload, if you could only to listen to one Rock band for the rest of forever, who would it be? If you can't decide on one, narrow it down to two, as I did.

Off the top of my head Cream and Hendrix - though I'll probably change my mind later..
ReplyDeleteThe Band
ReplyDeleteGBrand
It would be the Grateful Dead and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
ReplyDeleteI'd pass, there are too many nicer bands, Air (not a rock band) The Residents, (not a rock band), Einstürsende Neubauten (not a rock band) The Ex (not a rock band), The Beatles (not a rock band)
ReplyDeleteKing Crimson, ok, they will do
Difficult choices. I agree with you, The Rolling Stones (best rock n roll band of all time - no doubt in my mind). My second choice is Umphreys McGee. Thanks Babs
ReplyDeleteStones & Dead are hard to argue with. The Velvet Underground.
ReplyDeleteA very difficult question. I've thought about it for a long time. I like the Grateful Dead, especially their early to mid-70s phase, I also like the Stones, the entire Mick Taylor Era and Zappa, the whole Bizarre & Discreet story, and many others. But I can't imagine only listening to one of these great bands for the rest of my life. The feelings and thoughts that arise while listening are too limited for that. It's basically always the same. So for me I would say: Beethoven. It's not a band, but Beethoven is incredibly versatile and every time, even if I hear the same compositions, my feelings and thoughts are different. That's what music means to me. That doesn't mean that I don't like "modern pop music", not at all, I don't want to miss out on all these great bands, but if i had to decide which band or which musician I should listen to as the only one until the end of my days, I would choose Beethoven for the reasons mentioned above.
ReplyDeleteHard to disagree....the symphonies alone...
Deletesorry, wrong button. I forgot: Kindly regards, Mike
ReplyDeleteI like the classical angle. Hendrix is great but I could listen to Gustav Mahler's symphonies forever (already doing that for over 40 years)
ReplyDeleteAnon RF: The Kinks
ReplyDeleteI probably have too much history with the Stones (starting with "It's All Over Now" late at night under my pillow on the transistor radio), so I'll pick them. Although the Mahler thing is attractive, no?
ReplyDeleteThe Band or Neil Young with Crazy Horse—Whitten era.
ReplyDeleteEasy one, since I don't listen to much rock these days, but when I do, its usually The Beatles.
ReplyDeleteThe Byrds if we think that they're rock enough, and yes, the Stones.
ReplyDeleteRock is not really in the center of my interests, but when i think of a band which is creative and always surprising so i vote for King Crimson.
ReplyDeleteApart from the Stones it's a toss-up between Hendrix or the Doors.
ReplyDeleteSix Organs of Admittance & Tiny Vipers
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna have to sneak in Ekova & and Ana D
(sorry - yes, alcohol was involved)
It would be either Paul Weller's vehicles (Jam, Style Council or solo) or the Zombies.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all a big thank you for the great jazz albums, especially Miles, Wayne, Herbie. Those are from a great era of jazz.
ReplyDeleteI think I would go with The Velvet Underground and Shoes (no The).
The Byrds and the Grateful Dead. some honky indica kush too
ReplyDeleteBeatles
ReplyDeleteProbably Frank Zappa and Elvis Costello.
ReplyDeleteNo one has mentioned The Who, but they'd be contenders for me.
ReplyDeleteI also have to speak up for two lasting obsessions in my music library (although there are many, as my spouse has pointed out to me) - both sometimes perform acoustic and sometimes leading a band. They are Richard Thompson and Al Stewart. Even if you only listened to their Rock band offerings, there's a lot of material.
Plus, there's the one album of Al's where he hired most of Fairport as his band; Richard has a very good guitar lead on "In Brooklyn" from "Love Chronicles" (credited to Marvyn Prestwick).

Thanks so much, Babs!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy, Eric!
DeleteI'd have to go with the Stones as well -- lots of albums and lots of variety. Thanks for this nice upgrade!
ReplyDeleteI'd walk over you to see the Who or NRBQ!
ReplyDeleteEither The Beatles or King Crimson
ReplyDeleteInnerestin' question... I have to plan WAY ahead. Mom's headed towards her 102nd so I may have decades...in which case....quantity demands someone like the Stones with large catalog and a ton of bootlegs....or the Dead with never-ending boxed set releases. One LP? Eno's "Taking Tiger Mountain."
