And because I'm just such a great guy, here's another bone. Rita Payes is a young protege of Joan Chamorro and his ever evolving Barcelona based group, Sant Andreu. Its kinda like Spain's version of Blakey and the Jazz messengers, but the musicians are usually a bit younger in Chamorro's group. The alumnus to gain the greatest fame from Sant Andreu is trumpetist/singer/composer Andrea Motis. Payes stated with the group shortly before Motis left. In Sant Andreu she focued on trombone and vocals, and developed a sorta bossa nova sound. She released an lp with her mother, noted guitarist and singer, Elizabeth Roma, and also has one lp under her own name, all in the bossa genre. But, this new lp is def of a different genre. Part classical, part modern jazz, part who knows what the hell it is, but its all unbelievably great and comes from someone with a whopping 24 years on this planet.
