Announcement and Some Japanese Press Bruce Springsteen

'Cuz Babs Sez, That's Why',
will be on a short hiatus until April 23rd.

In the meantime, here's some
Bruce Springsteen.  The freeloads are 1973-2002 Japanese Press Editions, made for the Japanese domestic market, and released in 2005.  They sound sweet.

  1. Enjoy your break Babs - I've never 'gotten' Bruce so I'll take this opportunity to dig in - BTW I won't have to pay a tarriff to download will I?

  3. Feliz Semana Santa, querida amiga and to all who celebrate it. For the rest of us, go enjoy Spring, unless you live in a city that is now overwhelmed by people of all ages wearing costumes that became co-opted by the KKK, blocking off access to all things in the city. Oh well, these early Bruce recordings will get me through the week, and I have enough wine till Monday.

  4. The pace of posting since inception of this blog has been tremendous. I think that breaks are a very good idea, and I hope Babs enjoys this one.
My youth was largely spent in Los Angeles, so it was fun and challenging to have college roommates who listened to East Coast FM radio stations to form their tastes. Yes, that meant some Springsteen. I acquired "Greetings from Asbury Park" during that time, but otherwise was agnostic.
I've since thrown my lot in with a New Jersey native, and she loves Bruce. I have my favorites, I admire his commitment and fervor, and... I can take or leave a lot of this work. But I appreciate the opportunity to fill in gaps and otherwise reappraise!

    1. 1st time I saw him live, I had no real idea as to who, or what he was. Born To Run had not been released, and he got little airplay in NO. Had a friend from the East Coast who insisted that I taker her. 3.5 hour concert in a 2,000 seat auditorium that was maybe 1/2 filled. But, just an amazing night of music. Saw him a few times after that, but nothing has come close to that 1st time.

  5. This will all be relatively new to me. As far as I remember the only Bruce I have/had is a knocked off cassette of The River bought on a street in Thailand many years ago. I have led a very sheltered life. Thanks and enjoy your pause.

  6. Hope you're enjoying your sabbatical, Babs! I had heard the buzz about Bruuuuce for a little while, and out of curiosity picked up a cassette of Born To Run (cheap!). Loved it for its dramatic sound, and my friends in the car (who were used to me playing Braxton, Cecil, Oliver Lake) dug it too. I thought that Darkness rocked harder, The River sprawled a little too much, Nebraska was cool, and then lost any passionate interest. I do, however, always check out his releases as they appear, and there is always something contained that has much to recommend it. BTW, I still don't really like the first two albums, they are (dare I say it?) a little too wordy for my taste.
